About Me And "Life's Lessens"
So who am I? Well I'm currently in college. I'm majoring in physics and mathematics. I'm a pretty laid back guy. I'm a very "live and let live" kind of guy. If you aren't bothering me or harming someone else then why should I stick my nose in your business? I read a lot about anything and everything. That's where the majority of my inspiration comes from.
Why blog? Well I have more thoughts than I have people to listen. I like to discuss things that I read or hear about and I figure instead of bothering my peers and parents with all my discussions then I will just blog. And before you ask. Yes I have an opinion on practically everything. My opinions may change on things. I try to be flexible yet stubborn. I have my personal morals that I stick to, and there are other views on such things as politics that I doubt I will ever change, however, some may. I am blogging so that I may keep track of how my ideas change over time and how I progress as a person.
Another reason I want to blog is because I want a little discussion. I find that most of my friends and family have the same views as me. A lot of the people that I talk with who have opposing views really don't have reasons for their viewpoints. Therefore, I am either preachin' to choir or having an discussion with a brick wall. I am a firm believer that as an individual knowledge is never a bad thing. And I believe that seeing and understanding the opposing side furthers one's knowledge even if you don't believe in it. For instance, if you continue to read my blog then you may find that I am a firm capitalist. However, that does not mean I'm taking Karl Marx off my reading list. Seeing an opposing view will either find a way for you to better compromise or to defeat that view if need be.
What's This Blog About?
What's the title mean? Right now the title is "Life's Lessons." I have played with the title a good bit. I've tried many different titles for instance "The Voice of Reason," however, that seemed a little arrogant to me. I felt that "The Voice of Reason" implied that I claimed to always be right and that anyone who disagreed was not reasonable.
I also thought about "A Blind Man's Writings" which is probably my strangest idea. That title is based on a short story about a wise blind man who changed the life of a business man with his simplistic outlook on life and his reasonable thoughts. However, people might get the wrong idea and actually thing that I'm blind, or people who are actually blind might take offense. So for awhile this blog was unnamed.
However, on a trip to see my father I was discussing the problems of education with him. We talked about how children should be taught. As a child I often had one on one discussions with my father, mother and grandmother about big issues even at a very young age. My father claimed that discussing important topics was part of life's lessons and believed that leaning how to constructively argue a point in a discussion was essential to a child's development.
While this belief was nothing new to me nor to the rest of the world as it even has it's own name, "The Socratic Method," I had never before then associated it as being apart of life's lessons. Therefore, I renamed the title of my blog to "Life's Lessons," and I have stuck with that title since.
What will be discussed in this blog? Everything. As I stated above, I have an opinion about practically everything. For instance, this is not a religious blog, but I may talk about religion. This is not an atheist blog but I'll likely talk about evolution. Politics, society, literature, anything could likely be discussed. I enjoy a good constructive debate, so if you disagree then disagree but do so constructively. If you would like for me to go into more depth about a certain topic then post a comment on a related topic and tell me to do so. If you would like to express your views on a certain issue, then like I said above, post a comment on a related topic and ask for me to go into more depth about something more specific. I may not ever use the suggestion but if it is a good one then I will added to my list of topic ideas and consider it in the future.
Commenting
This is probably the most important item in this introduction. As I stated above, I encourage constructive criticism. Therefore, I will not respect any insulting comments or name calling. If you leave a comment in response to me or another comment that is insulting either me or another person then your comment will be deleted and ignored. Leave the name calling to the children we elect to office in Washington. I would hope the rest of us are a little more mature.
